Making it a Habit

12 Oct

I could still very well recall that time I tried to blog and ended up losing interest on it. It was during my freshman days when I had this because I envied my dorm-mate’s (who happened to be my best friend) blog. After several posts and tons of academic requirements, I never did get the hang of it.

And now few years after, I find my self writing one blog post to another (not to mention rushing some posts to meet the deadline). I’m actually enjoying this stuff which I never knew I will. And that is all because of my subject Organizational Communication 152: Communication Trends and Styles by Sir Barry.

The whole blogging experience made me realize a lot of things and I learned so much from it too. At first, the reason why I couldn’t start a blog was because I did not know the technicalities of it in wordpress.com. I remember asking an alumnus to help me out in customizing my blog as I find it more encouraging to start writing in a well-designed blog site. However, I ended up doing it my self out of desperation and the fear that I might fail this subject. (LOL!)

Over and above that, I eventually learned how to change my layout, choose a theme and learned HTML-ing like ABC (thanks to my friend who patiently taught me the codes). It was indeed a fun experience.

The main purpose of this blog is to promote BA Organizational Communication by writing about it and relating it the New Social Media. Every blog post is a different learning experience. Coming up with even just one post would require you to read and research about the topic you would want to write about.

I hope that through this simple blog of mine that started as a course requirement, I have contributed to creating a “buzz” about Organizational Communication with the hope that people continue to spread information about this wonderful degree program in UP Manila through the my posts here and those of my classmates as well.

So, would I continue blogging after 11:59 tonight? I would not say YES DEFINITELY but I would rather say that I WILL TRY TO MAKE IT A HABIT. And I hope to find inspiration in every step of the way from being an OrCom student into finally finding my niche in the workforce soon.#

Hyperspecialization: Good or Bad?

12 Oct

In Science, the word atom originally denoted a particle that cannot be cut into smaller particles. However, in modern scientific usage the atom is composed of various subatomic particles or constituent particles namely: the electron, the proton and the neutron.

Just like how scientists before thought that atoms cannot be broken down into smaller particles, organizations before never thought that work done by a single person can actually be broken down into specialized units that will be done by a greater number of people. It has the same idea behind the the set relationship in Math called: one to many. And this my friends is called hyperspecialization.

Experiencing BUZZ

12 Oct

(Disclaimer: Any views or opinions presented in this blog post are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of DepEd-CSCA nor its officials and employees.)

The word “buzz” has become so popular lately, not only in my OrCom 152 class. It’s weird that I hear about it in almost anywhere I go. Or is it just me being reminded that I actually have to write about the “buzz” before 11:59 tonight.

Seriously, if my OC 152 class has a Twitter account, “buzz” should be trending right now. So, allow me to share with you the insights I have learned from reading Emmanuel Rosen’s book: The Anatomy of Buzz Revisited.

On the New Social Media and Trust-building

12 Oct

Just the other day, my friend and I were exchanging views about various political and economic issues today. And I should say that was a fruitful discussion we had. Why? Aside from the activity being intellectually stimulating, I got an idea (a light bulb moment) from it, which happens to be the reason for this blog post.

It all started with the controversial Freedom of Information Bill. We both conceded to the fact that government being an organization for the people and by the people does not need any law for that matter for transparency in its transactions. It should be inherent then for government to be accountable to the people especially in handling the nation’s coffer.

That being the predicate, our conversation then zeroed in on the heavily supported Conditional Cash Transfer Program of this government. With a budget of 23 billion pesos this year, the government is ready to dole out a whooping 39 billion for CCT in 2012.

Being REAL

12 Oct

During the recent suspension of classes due to Typhoon Pedring, I found myself in a dark room with no electricity, no internet, no cable and a phone with a dying battery. Just before my Blackberry was about to shut off, I was able to retweet this:

I retweeted this for a number of reasons:

“i” Changed the World

12 Oct

It might be late but I wouldn’t want to miss writing a tribute for someone who has changed the world.

Mr. Steven Paul "Steve" Jobs (/ˈdʒɒbz/; February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011). Photo courtesy of Google Images.

It was undoubtedly a life spent well for Mr. Steve Jobs. His ideas wrought changes upon the world that made what was impossible, possible. Mr. Jobs’ did not only make information accessible literally in one touch, he made it fun too.

There is now a growing concern about sharing too much information in social networking sites especially on Facebook, which is widely used worldwide. Some people are worried that this “culture of sharing” online might go beyond these sites.
